How to complete the Gembroker Onboarding Process, including Know-Your-Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money-Laundering (AML) measures, to ensure the legitimacy and safety of our customers on the Gembot Platform.

Gembot and Gembroker’s mission is to democratise access to investment opportunities, information and tools.
We allow users in New Zealand and the United States to trade US Equities, ETFs and Cryptocurrencies commission free.

What you will need handy:
This onboarding process typically takes less than 10 minutes to complete and most users are accepted in under 60 minutes.
New Zealand Users:
- Drivers Licence or New Zealand Passport
- Inland Revenue Department (IRD) Number
- Withholding Tax Rate
United States Users:
- Social Security Number
- Personal Identification

Start by clicking the Gembroker tile.
Step 1 - Identification Information
This step is to verify who you are and some key tax information.
All mandatory fields are annotated with a star (*).
Step 2 - Contact Information
Step 3 - Disclosures
Most users do not fall under these disclosures, however, it is important to make you are not exposed to any conflicts of interest related to public markets.
Step 4 - W8BEN Form (New Zealand Users)
A W-8BEN Form is a certificate of foreign status of beneficial owner for United States tax withholding. It is used by foreign individuals or entities to certify their non-US status and claim any applicable treaty benefits for the purpose of reducing or eliminating their US tax liability. This form is often used by foreign businesses or individuals who receive income from US sources such as interest, dividends, rent, or royalties. By completing and submitting this form, the foreign individual or entity is able to claim treaty benefits and avoid or reduce the amount of tax withheld on their income by the payer.

Step 6 - Trusted Contact
We now need to finalise the submission so we can move onto identity verification!
Step 7 - Identity Verification
If you have your mobile phone handy it is a really easy way to verify your identity. You can upload the required images via your laptop or desktop as well.

You now need to go back to the device you are completing the onboarding form on.
Once you complete the onboarding form your portfolio view may show up. Once your application has been accepted, you will be informed via email from us. This should be typically within 30 minutes of submission.
Watch out for an email in your inbox letting you know when you have been accepted or whether any additional information may be required to process your Gembroker application.
